SCANNER:

A scanner( also called optical scanner) captures the image of a usually flat object ( such as a printed document, photograph,or drawing) in digital form and then tranfers that data to a PC.Typically,the entire document( including both text and images) is input as a single graphical image that can be resized, inserted into other documents, posted on a web page, e-mailed to someone, printed, or otherwise treated like any other graphical image.
The text in the image, cannot be edited unless optical character recognition(OCR) software is used in conjuction with the scanner to input the scanned text as individual text characters..





TYPES OF SCANNER:

1. FLATBED SCANNER:  are designed to scan flat objects one page at a time.

2.SLIDE  SCANNER:Scanners that can scan slides and film negatives called slide scanner.

3. SHEET SCANNER:Scanners that can  scan sheets called sheet scanner.These scanners are designed for high volume business processing come with automatic document feeders so that large quantities of documents can be scanned with one command.

4.DRUM SCANNER: It is more expensive and more difficult to operate.The documents to be scanned are mounted on a glass cylinder, which is then rotated at high speeds around a sensor located inside a scanner.


5. 3D-SCANNER: It can scan an item or person in 3D. It is used in multimedia,medical and some business applications.


6.RECEIPT SCANNER: 
Receipt scanners are specialized scanners that are used to scan paper documents like invoices, bills and receipts, so that you can better manage these records. Once receipts have been scanned, you will be able to back up these records, organize your filing system better, and make tax filing a less stressful time of year. Scanned receipts are also helpful if you hire a virtual assistant to support you with administrative tasks.

7.BUSINESS CARD SCANNERS:It scans business cards into a text file in just a few seconds.It can extract both text as well as image.

8. BODY SCANNING:

The Me-Ality machine, made by a North American company called Unique Solutionsand modified in Korea, runs radio waves over a fully clothed person who is scanned standing up. The radio waves send and receive power signals that reflect off the water molecules in the skin, picking up more than 200,000 points of measurement. From these, the machine creates a 3-D image, then extracts more than 100 measurements.After a 10-second scan, software compares the individual’s measurements to those provided by partner manufacturers and then recommends items that are guaranteed to fit: Old Navy’s Sweetheart style jeans in a size 10, say. The clothes it recommends are all (of course) available in shops at the mall, so customers can stroll in and pick them up, or head home and order online.
