It input data from special forms to score or tally exams, questionaries, ballots, and so forth.
If it is an exam or some other type of objective instrument, an answer form containing the correct responses is input first, and then the OMR scans and compare completed forms to the answer form.The OMR uses the information to print the total correct on each exam form.
OPTICAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION(OCR) DEVICES:-
Optical characters are characters specifically designed to be identifiable by humans as well as by some type of OCR device.
Turnaround documents,(such as monthly bills for credit cards, utility, and cable TV companies) contain optical characters in certain places on the bill to aid processing when consumers send it back with payment and are printed with OCR fonts for scanning.
MAGNETIC INK CHARACTER RECOGNITION(MICR) READERS:
It is a technology used primarily by the banking industry to facilitate check processing.It contains 14 characters-----the 10 decimal digits(0 through 9) and 4 special symbols.
MICR characters are inscribed on checks with magnetic ink by a special machine.As people write checks, the recipients deposit them in the banking system.At bank, reader/sorter machines magnetically read and identify the MICR encoded bank and account information on the check, magnetically encode the amount of the check onto the check,and sort the checks.Images of the checks can then be captured and routed to the appropriate bank for processing.
BIOMETRIC READERS:
It is the study of identifying based on measurable biological characteristics.
Here, individual can be identified based on a particular uniqur physiological characteristic(such as fingerprint, hand geometry, face,or iris of the eye.) or personal trait( such as voice or signature).
Some handheld computers,notebook PCs, and storage devices today have built in fingerprint readers to allow only authorized users access to the PC or data stored on the device.
